Rotherham Titans try scorer hails team-mates after last-kick victory

ROTHERHAM Titans' last-gasp win against Birmingam Moseley on Saturday was a victory for persistence and spirit, says try scorer Zak Poole.

Poole's try, converted by Ellis Abrahams in the 14th minute of stoppage time, clinched a dramatic 21-20 victory at Clifton Lane and kept Titans' in contention near the top of National One.

Rotherham were far from their best in a stop-start game of countless penalties against a well drilled Moseley outfit, making the victory all the sweeter.

"It was squeaky bum time but it showed our character that we didn't let it get in our heads," said Zak. "We kept firing and fair play to the props, they scrummed and scrummed and it worked.

"Penalties in a game are hard to play against but to come through and not let that get to us, it shows so much character. At the end it could have gone either way but we made it our way. We took it by two hands and made it our game."

While complimentary of his players' fighting qualities, head coach Joe Barker wants to see a significant improvement in the next match away to Sale FC this weekend.

"We know we can play a lot better, we've shown we can play a lot better," he said.

"There were a lot of errors, we were so hot and cold. I don't even know the penalty count and that's all on us. We have to take ownership of that and look at what we've got to improve on but a win is a win. We showed character to come back and Ellis handled the pressure very well to land his kick. We enjoyed it but we'll be brutally honest with each other and get better for Saturday."

Kick-off is 3pm, and don't forget to check out Friday's Advertiser for a preview, more from Zak Poole and a full look back to Saturday's game.
