Rotherham Titans reflect on harsh defeat at Plymouth

ROTHERHAM Titans will re-group and look for an immediate response to Saturday's cruel defeat at Plymouth.

Titans clawed back an early 19-0 deficit to lead by a point going into stoppage time, only to concede a last gasp try to lose 33-27.

Zak Poole, Connor Dever and Anthony Maka all crossed the whitewash for Rotherham, who had to settle for a losing bonus point. Sam Hollingsworth slotted two conversions and two penalties and replacement Morgan Bunting added the extras to the third try.

Co-coach Anthony Posa said: “Sport can be very cruel but we were not good enough in the first half, especially on defence where we got outplayed physically.

“At half time we addressed that and we took a bit of ownership and I’m really proud of the boys’ efforts in the second half. To come back from 19-0 down, then 19-7 down at half time and to put us in a position to win the game was outstanding.

“In the cold light of day we’ll take some consolation in taking a point from this one as we know how difficult it is to come down here and get the win."

Titans have five points from their opening three games in National One, a home win against Sale FC and the opening-day loss at Rosslyn Park completing the sequence.

Next up is a visit from Cambridge on Saturday, the visitors also having won one and lost two of their opening three.

Kick-off is 2pm.
