Rotherham Titans are relegated

ROTHERHAM Titans have been relegated from National One after a ruling from the RFU.

With the campaign abandoned due to the pandemic, decisions on promotion and relegation have been decided on a "best playing record formula."

Final tables published on the RFU website show Rotherham relegated  with a score of 48.85 behind nearest club Birmingham Moseley's 52.02.

The decision to relegate will be seen as harsh given Titans stood just four points shy of the safety line with five games to go and up to 25 league points still to play for.

They also occupy the third relegation spot that was due to be filled with the winners of the play-off between the runners-up in National Two North and National Two South. That match could not take place because of the coronavirus crisis.

Richmond are promoted from National One, with already relegated Canterbury and Hull Iionians dropping down with the Titans.

Rotherham had two years in the Premiership in the early 2000s and were an established Championship club until their relegation to National One last year.

It will the club's first time in dometic rugby's fourth tier since 1996.
