Rotherham Sunday League considers options after football season cut short

THE Rotherham Sunday League is deciding its next move in the light of the early end to the season due to the coronavirus.

The first option is declaring the campaign null and void and expunging all results, as has happened higher up the non-league pyramid at the command of the FA.

The second option is to decide promotion and relegation on a points per game calculation.

In a Twitter poll, respondees voted 60 per cent to 40 per cent for the second option.

The final decision rests with the league committee, which had already been grappling with a huge fixture backlog caused by the wet winter.

None of the Sunday cup finals, scheduled for AESSEAL New York Stadium, will be played in the light of the current lockdown.

The finals of the Rotherham Charity Cup and Mexborough Montagu Cup will evenutally be played as and when football is given clearance to resume.

Meanwhile, the 2019/20 campaigns of the County Senior League, Central Midlands League and Sheffield Junior League have all been declared null and void, as has the Northern Counties East League.
