Rotherham Hockey Club appeals for players old and new

ROTHERHAM Hockey Club is participating in an England Hockey initiative to attract former players back to the sport and encourage new ones.

Back to Hockey is taking place at the club's HQ at the Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park on Bawtry Road, Brinsworth, on Wednesdays (7pm-8pm) for ten weeks.

All abilities are welcome and it costs £3 for adults and £2 for 16-year-olds and under. A family ticket is £8.

Anyone attending doesn't need a stick as there are plenty to borrow. All that is needed are trainers suitable for use on astro turf.

A club spokesman said: “We are one of over 200 clubs across the country who will be delivering Back to Hockey sessions for those who haven't played before or might not have played since school or university.

People shouldn't worry if they are new to the game or haven't played for a while because our ‘Back to Hockey’ coach will guide them through this series of fun and friendly sessions. Along the way they will also make new friends and have the chance to socialise after a session.”

Over the ten weeks participants will be introduced back to the game by mixing in some skills exercises with small sided game play.

The emphasis is on a friendly and relaxed environment without the pressure to perform. It's also an opportunity to get fitter, as each "Back to Hockey" session burns up to 450 calories. The sessions will be in small, informal groups.
