Rotherham footballer Libby Hallam requires operation after suffering serious injury

ROTHERHAM United Women footballer Libby Hallam is undergoing surgery after suffering a serious injury in a match yesterday.

The 22-year-old midfielder fractured her ankle and broke her tibia and fibula in the East Midlands Regional League fixture away to Ollerton Town.

The match was abandoned and Libby was taken to Mansfield Hospital and then transferred to Sheffield's Northern General Hospital at her own request.

Team spokeswoman Val Hoyle said: "We were only five minutes into the game. It was just a tackle and Libby was in such a lot of pain and the other girls were upset. They all stayed until the ambulance arrived.

"We are all thinking about her and wishing her a speedy recovery."
