Rotherham boxer Nav Mansouri's title challenge ends in points defeat

NAV Mansouri's bid for the vacant WBA Intercontinental super-welterweight title ended in defeat at Matchroom Fight Camp tonight.

The Rotherham fighter lost a unanimous points decision to Northampton's Kieron Conway, the judges scoring it 99-92, 98-92, 98-92.

Making his first appearance on British soil in three years, Mansouri showed lots of heart and had some success in the fast-paced early stages, landing with some good shots in the first and third rounds.

Although he caught his younger opponent with a short left hook in the sixth, Mansouri was forced more on to the back foot as the fight wore on and Conway looked to exert his power.

Mansouri was hurt in the tenth and final round but bravely hung in until the bell to deny his opponent a stoppage in an entertaining contest.

It is the fourth defeat of the 31-year-old's pro career while Conway moves to 15-1-1.
