Ronnie waits on striker search

MILLERS manager Ronnie Moore has not discounted his chances of signing a new striker in time for the weekend.

Former Barnsley man Jon Macken, ex MK Dons and Charlton forward Izale McLeod and Moore's son, Ian Thomas-Moore, are all in Rotherham's sights as they bid to land an experienced partner for Adam Le Fondre.

Moore was due to speak to Tranmere Rovers about Thomas-Moore last night in the wake of a board meeting at Prenton Park to discuss the player's future. The 33-year-old has tabled a transfer request after being refused an extended deal.

The Millers are still waiting for a reply from Macken having made a good offer to him while Moore has again asked McLeod to come in for a trial to assess his fitness.

The 25-year-old underwent a cartilage operation in February.

Moore, meanwhile, has not ruled out bringing Middlesborough's Josh Walker back to the club. The midfielder played 15 games on loan last season.

Said Moore: "He had a knee operation during the summer and is doing quite well. He's one we are monitoring because we need a ball-retaining midfield player."

The Millers—beaten 4-1 at Peterborough United in the Carling Cup in midweek—bid to build upon their opening-day win over Lincoln City when they return to League Two action at Morecambe's new Globe Arena tomorrow (3pm).

Mark Bradley, Dean Holden and Exodus Geohaghon are all back available while striker Tom Elliott should be OK after sitting out the cup match with a swollen knee.

Centre-half Nick Fenton is to have a MRI scan on his troublesome calf.
