Ronnie plans big changes

ROTHERHAM United boss Ronnie Moore has pledged to build a new team after the Wembley disappointment.

The 12 players out of contract will be told this week whether or not they have a future at the club as Moore starts to trim his squad in order to bring better players in.

Speaking after Sunday's League Two play-off final defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge, the Millers chief said: "We have 12 players out of contract and it's time now to build a new team. I know whom I'm releasing. It's just a matter of telling the players.

"With one or two additions, we can challenge again. I would like to reduce the squad because we've too many. It's unusual for a manager to say that but we've 24 pros and we need to come down to about 18. I'm looking for quality more than quantity."

Despite two equalisers from Ryan Taylor, the Millers were undone by strikes from Paul Benson, Danny Green and Jon Nurse as they went down 3-2 in front of a crowd of more than 32,000.

Moore said: "It was a fantastic game, end to end stuff. I've got to praise our lads for their effort and commitment but it wasn't enough.

"The third goal was the killer goal because we'd given our all to get back to 1-1 and then 2-2. We needed a break then and if we had got our noses in front the game would have changed but it wasn't our day. We didn't get the breaks or the luck."

As Dagenham make the step up to League One, the Millers face another year in League Two. The fixtures for the 2010/11 season are out in a couple of weeks time.
