Richie Towell: 'I want to stay with Rotherham United'

Warne tried to broker a full deal for Towell during the transfer window but talks with the loan midfielder's agent broke down without an agreement being reached.

However, Towell - who already has a young daughter, Meadow, with fiancee Kelly - is preparing to be a dad for the second time and is keen to extend his stay in South Yorkshire.

His contract with parent club Brighton & Hove Albion expires at the end of June and he is hoping AESSEAL New York Stadium is his next permanent destination.

“I was disappointed it didn't happen in January,” said the 27-year-old Irishman. 

“I have a young family and another baby on the way, so it's not ideal to be out of contract at the end of the season.”

Towell won promotion from League One with Rotherham in his first loan season last year and was a scorer in last Saturday's 2-2 Championship draw with derby rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

After scoring ten goals in 68 Millers appearances and making the provisional Republic of Ireland squad earlier this season, continuing to impress Warne is top of his agenda.

“I'm the type of person who just gets on with it,” he said. “I work as hard as I can every single day and hopefully if I keep putting in performances like the one against Sheffield Wednesday the gaffer will try to sign me again in the summer.

“I'd definitely like that to happen. I love it here. I've always enjoyed my time here. I love playing under this manager and with this group of players. It's a good place to be. 

“I'm living in Leeds, which is a nice city. There's a real feel-good factor here. It's a nice place to come in to to train every day.

“For one thing or another, it just didn't work out in January. It was unfortunate because I would have liked to have got things done.”
