REPORT: Millers fall to Wolves defeat

ROTHERHAM United dipped to defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The Millers came into the game full of confidence on the back of two straight victories but Wolves edged a close encounter to take a 2-1 victory back to the Midlands.

It wasn’t a good start for Rotherham when Jordan Graham got free down the left after just five minutes to whip in a delightful ball that caught Harry Toffolo cold at the back post. James Henry snuck in on the blind side to glance a header into Lee Camp’s goal.

Camp’s goal was once again under siege five minutes later but this time the stopper pulled off a stunning one handed save to deny Henry another headed goal, this time from a corner.

The Millers were back on level terms with just under 20 minutes on the clock. A penalty area scramble was finally scuffed home via the post by a grateful Joe Newell. It was a case of right place at the right to capitalise on Toffolo’s tame effort.

Rotherham started the half badly and ended it in the same manner when Wolves’ skipper Danny Batth rose highest to head home from a corner just a minute before the break to give the visitors the half time advantage.

Rotherham huffed and puffed in the second half but found real chances hard to come by. Grant Ward clipped a Toffolo cut back over the bar before Jonson Clarke-Harris came within inches of meeting a Ward cross at the back post.

It was an exciting game that at times was stretched as both teams went for all three points, but the Millers ultimately couldn’t force an equaliser.
