REACTION: "We stuck with it": Ihiekwe

MICHAEL Ihiekwe saluted the staying power of Rotherham United team-mates after their late show at Doncaster Rovers.

The central defender, filling in at left-back, was staring defeat in the face when the Millers went into the closing minutes a goal behind to their local rivals.

Kieffer Moore’s last gasp leveller forged a 1-1 draw and Ihiekwe agreed that in the circumstances the result felt like a victory.

He told the Advertiser: “We had a fair few chances in the game as a whole. It was getting on late and you think you might not get a goal but to be fair to the lads they stuck with it. We always felt we’d get a chance and it was just a case whether we could take it and we did.

“There have been games this season when we have had chances and lost. This time we did well to stick with it. Results like that can springboard your season.”

The only disappointment for Ihiekwe was that he picked up a fifth booking, meaning he sits out next Saturday's top-of-the-table clash with Shrewsbury.
