Proctor braced for physical test against Lions

STRIKER Jamie Proctor knows that he and his Rotherham United team-mates will have to fight fire with fire when they take on Millwall on Sunday.

Like Rotherham, the Lions aren't afraid to get the ball forward quickly and are also a handful on set pieces.

It is all set up for a test of muscle and Proctor, fresh from bagging his third goal in three matches against Hull on Tuesday, is ready.

“This match will be completely different to what we've faced so far,” he told the Advertiser.

“We've played Leeds, who are a good footballing side, and Brentford who are probably one of the best in the division.

Ipswich could play a bit and like to mix it up as well but I think Millwall will be big and physical, maybe more similar to us. They had success last season, just missing out on the play-offs, and they have started this season well again so it will be a tough game and probably a little different to Tuesday.”

The style of both teams might not be as easy on the eye as many in the second tier but Proctor, a player who thrives on decent delivery into the box, says there is no need to be apologetic about it.

“There is no shame in that,” he says. “Cardiff scored a lot of goals last season from set pieces and they're now a Premier League team. You have to create chances and work to your strengths.”

Frustration...for skipper Richard Wood against the Tigers.

Proctor's goal off the bench against Hull was further proof that he is over the serious knee injury that kept him out for a year. It was his first league goal since he scored for Carlisle, on loan from Bolton, in an away match at Exeter way back in May last year.

“It feels a long time ago when you put it like that,” says Jamie.

“Obviously the 12 months I missed contributed to that and the only goal I got in the few games I played last season was in the cup. It's nice to be back and it's nice to continue scoring but to be honest you come away from a defeat and forget about your personal goals. I know everyone says that but it is true. If we could have got a result against Hull then that would have been the main positive, especially for us as a group because we're a squad that tries to stick together. There will be no-one in our dressing room doing it for themselves.

“Obviously we have spoken about the goals we conceded against Hull but the main thing was belief. Coming off the back of Saturday at Leeds, if we had a bit more belief then we would have got something.

“In the last 20 minutes or half an hour, we showed what we can do when we put teams under pressure. We have to take that forward into games now because if we're that positive and that much on the front foot, we will cause anyone problems.”
