SOUTH Yorkshire Police are “proactively investigating” an “alleged incident of racial abuse” at Rotherham United’s match against Cambridge United this weekend.
The football club issued a statement earlier today saying: “Rotherham United are disappointed to learn of an alleged incident of racial abuse aimed at a Cambridge United supporter during Saturday’s game at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
“The club will now investigate the incident and work closely with South Yorkshire Police to bring anyone guilty of such a claim to justice.”
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “We are aware of the statement on Rotherham United Football Club's website regarding an alleged incident during the game against Cambridge United on Saturday, November 20.
“We are pro-actively carrying out investigations at this time and are liaising with the club to determine what happened regarding the alleged incident.”
