Pin badges to mark 125th anniversary of Mexborough Montagu Cup

A SPECIAL badge has been produced to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Mexborough Montagu Cup.

Competition organisers are already marking the occasion by inviting all previous finalists to a special pre-match meet-up prior to the traditional Easter Monday final.

The pin-badges will be sold at the final to help provide additional funds to the competition's charity, the Montagu Hospital Comforts Fund, and there has already been a lot of interest from local football followers in acquiring one.

Many former finalists, stretching back several decades, are expected at the pre-match function in the Mexborough Athletic Club (from 9.15am) ahead of the 'Mont' final on April 18 (11am) at Hampden Road.

In it, Mexborough side Dog Daisy United face Scawthorpe Athletic who have also reached the prestigious Sheffield Sunday Senior Cup Final after beating Mexbro' Sunday League side Queens United 1-0 in the semi-final. Dog Daisy lost in their semi-final 1-0 to Wadsley Bridge Pheasant.

Montagu Cup Secretary Barrie Dalby said: “We thought it would be a nice touch to have a little memento of this anniversary and the feedback already about the badges has been good and I am sure they will prove popular.”
