Parkgate and rivals keen to get back into action after weather-enforced lay-off

The Steelmen haven’t played a match since October 30, with their fixture at home to Ollerton Town on Wednesday night just the latest to be washed out.

With the forecast drier for the weekend, there is more chance tomorrow’s match against Selby Town at Roundwood will get the go-ahead but Gate, who sit tenth in Northern Counties East League Division One, will still have to work their way through a fixture backlog, like many other clubs.

Andy said: “I know we’ve had snow during the season in the past but this run has been unbelievable, so many times the rain has come down on Fridays and Saturdays.

“We’ve been able to train and we’ve had a friendly but it is still very frustrating. There will be a massive fixture backlog and depending on how things go, we could be playing Wednesdays and Saturdays or Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

“The one positive to come out of this is that we have only one injured player. Everyone has been able to get back fit.”

Last Saturday’s postponed home game away to Winterton Rangers has been rearranged for Wednesday, March 4 (7.45pm)

Swallownest’s match at home to Skegness Town last weekend was another casualty. Jordan Stocks’ side, who sit a couple of places below Parkgate in the table, will hope for better tomorrow away to Glasshoughton Welfare (3pm).

Maltby Main are scheduled to return to action away to Garforth in the NCEL Premier Division.
