Open division gives everyone a chance, including Titans

ROTHERHAM Titans can take encouragement with just how open National One appears to be this season, with coach Joe Barker admitting: “It's a bit all over the place at the moment.”

Just five points separate leaders Chinnor from Rosslyn Park, in 12th place. The top three, completed by Old Elthamians and Caldy, all lost last weekend.

Even at this early stage, there looks to be no outstanding team, making it potentially the most unpredictable competition in years.

For Titans, who have overcome a slow start to register successive bonus-point victories, the opportunity is there to push into the top half of the table. At the moment they're tenth, four points off Chinnor, who are the visitors to Clifton Lane this weekend.

“Everyone is beating everyone, it's a bit all over the place at the moment,” Barker told the Advertiser. “Hopefully we'll start figuring out who is where but every game is tough.

Joe Barker: "Everyone is competing."

“Even when you go to (bottom side) Loughborough, who we played last weekend, you can still expect a decent competition.

“Not that there is an easy game in any season, but you usually have one where you can try different little things. There isn't in this league, it's different. There seems to be no big team, no Coventry, Hartpury or Richmond. Everyone is competing.”

Kick-off at Clifton Lane tomorrow is at 2pm.
