Paul Warne's men led 1-0 at the break through Semi Ajayi's stunning long-range strike but a defensive mix-up gave the visitors a way back into the match soon after half-time and Marcelo Bielsa's side struck the winner with only four minutes to go.

The Millers gave everything but Leeds' second-half pressure was too much for them in the end.

Rotherham more than matched the league' top team in the first half, scrapping for everything and winning most of the battles.

There were few clear-cut chances and it needed something special to break the deadlock.

Ajayi duly provided it in the 28th minute, breaking forward and unleashing an unstoppable 25-yard drive past Kiko Casilla, the goalkeeper signed from Real Madrid and making his Leeds debut.

Having been outworked in the first half, Leeds found a way back five minutes after the break when Clark Robertson and Marek Rodak fatally waited for each other to clear the danger and Mateusz Klich took advantage of the hesitation.

The Millers came under the cosh as Rodak had to dive to push an Ezgjan Alioski bending cross away, Kemar Roofe headed wide after the home defence had been sprung and Alioski shot wide when he had more time than he thought.

A Will Vaulks long-range special forced a fine save from Casilla before substitute Jerry Yates lost possession on the left flank in the closing stages and the ball was worked to Klich who made no mistake.

Rotherham, who remain in 21st place, launched a wave of attacks as the clock ticked down but couldn't find an equaliser.
