Millers skipper moves on

CAPTAIN Ian Sharps has turned down a new contract offer from Rotherham United in order to sign for Shrewsbury Town.

The experienced centre-half was offered fresh terms to stay with the Millers but has opted to move to the Shrews, ending a four-year association with the club.

Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore said: "It is a little disappointing because Ian has had a good season for us.

"We have offered him a good deal which would have made him the second highest earning player at the club, so we tried our best to keep him here but he has opted to move to Shrewsbury."

Sharps will face the Millers for his new club as the two do battle in League Two next season.
