Millers sharpen up for Barnet test

MILLERS manager Ronnie Moore will resist making wholesale changes for tomorrow's match at Barnet despite their second-half cave-in against Burton Albion.

Having squandered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at Don Valley on Saturday, defensive work has been high on the agenda in training this week and Moore expects his players to show they've learnt their lesson on the infamous slope at Underhill.

He said: "I'm happy with the amount of goals we're scoring but we have to defend better.

"It's criminal that we couldn't keep a 3-0 lead in 45 minutes. That's what disappoints me more than anything. It hurt afterwards and I hope we've learnt from it.

"We have to be professional and let the clock tick down and grind out wins.

"Our downfall was defending too deep and that's why we've worked this week on keeping a high line and keeping our shape.

"One thing's for sure, we can't afford to defend too deep tomorrow on the hill at Barnet or they will come onto us and we'll get penned in."

Moore has to consider whether to recall loanee Dean Holden at right-back for Johnny Mullins, who struggled last Saturday and is still striving for full fitness after an injury-plagued pre-season.

Tom Pope is also pushing for a place up front after scoring three goals in the last two reserves games.

Moore said: "There were some good individual performances in the reserves and a few are knocking on the door now.

"Popey did well and so did Mark Bradley and Marcus Marshall. We've got Nick Fenton pushing for a place again at centre-half but Exodus Geohaghon has done nothing wrong and Johnny Mullins needs games. I don't think I can change the back four."

Barnet sit fourth bottom of League Two but beat sixth-placed Cheltenham 3-1 in their last home game.

Rotherham are fifth in the early standings and will start as favourites but Moore is cautious.

"If we play how we can play then we're a better side than Barnet," he said.

Kick-off tomorrow is 3pm.
