ROTHERHAM United's Semi Ajayi returns to club duties this week boosted by his senior international debut for Nigeria.
The 24-year-old was introduced as a 73rd minute substitute for injured right-back Chidozie Awaziem in the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles and put in an assured showing as the Super Eagles closed out a 3-0 win.
“Was an honour to make my international debut today,” Ajayi tweeted.
“Humbled to finally represent my country at the highest level and even more grateful to mark it with a win and clean sheet. Thank you God.”
Ajayi's travelling companions for the match in the Seychelles capital of Victoria were Nigeria's England-based players Alex Iwobi of Arsenal, Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, Stoke's Oghenekaro Etebo and Brighton's Leon Balogun.
Goals from Ahmed Musa, Chidozie Awaziem and Odion Ighalo secured Nigeria's first win of the qualifiers.
Ajayi will be striving for another call-up for the next one against Libya on October 9.
His Millers team-mate, goalkeeper Marek Rodak, is on duty for Slovoakia U21s in a European Championship qualifier against Iceland U21s in Reykjavik tomorrow.
Rotherham return to Championship action at home to Derby County on Saturday.
