Millers complete double seaside swoop as Vassell signs in

STRIKER Kyle Vassell has become Rotherham United’s second signing of the day from Blackpool.

The 25-year-old has followed clubmate Clark Robertson to the AESSEAL New York Stadium on a three-year deal. Soon to be out of contract at Bloomfield Road, the two will join their new team-mates when they report back for training next week.

Vassell has been at the top of Blackpool’s scoring charts in his two seasons with them.

He netted 11 goals in 29 games last term and 13 the year before when Pools won promotion from League Two.

Vassell started out in the youth set-up at Norwich before slipping into non-league. After netting 16 goals in 16 games for Bishop’s Stortford, he earned a move to Peterborough five years ago.

He made only 16 league appearances and had loan spells at Oxford, Dagenham and Shrewsbury before moving to Blackpool and getting his career back on track.

Southend were also tracking the player but, like Robertson,Vassell was attracted by the challenge of Championship football.

With two deals complete, manager Paul Warne and his staff are now working on bringing in more new faces by early next week.
