MATCHDAY CENTRE: "The response was good," says Jackett

NEW Rotherham United boss Kenny Jackett is still looking for improvement from his players despite a battling first away point of the season at Ipswich on Saturday.

Jackett took charge of just his second game as Millers manager and although the team halted their seven game losing sequence with a more organised performance, the former Wolves and Swansea boss has identified where things need to tighten up.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw, Jackett said: “The near post area wasn't well covered for their first goal and at that point, two-and-a-half minutes in, you do fear the worst.

“The response was good right through the game and that's something we can build our season on.”

The Millers led thanks to two goals from in-form striker Danny Ward after Freddie Sears’ close-range effort had give the hosts an early lead.

But Ipswich earned a point with virtually the last kick of the game as striker David McGoldrick lashed the ball home from outside the area.

Jackett said: “I was waiting for the onslaught to come in the second period but our goalkeeper didn't have a lot to do. It was a quality strike from David McGoldrick, that's the division, there are quality players and you have to be ready all the time.

"I didn't necessarily see it coming but I do know McGoldrick is a quality player. I had to get one of the midfield players to go and man mark him because I know he has that quality if it does drop to him. There's not a lot a goalkeeper can do.

"There was disappointment in the dressing room, quite naturally after being 2-1 up and conceding a 94th minute equaliser.”

Jackett confirmed that skipper Lee Frecklington missed the game with an ankle injury sustained at Birmingham two weeks ago but hopes to have the midfielder back in contention for the Preston tie this weekend.

Greg Halford picked up a calf injury at Portman Road and will be monitored throughout the week.
