Louise aims to beat pain barrier

ROTHERHAM sprinter Louise Bloor is willing to run through the pain barrier in a bid to book her place in the Great Britain squad for the European Championships.

The 24-year-old former Maltby Comprehensive school pupil has been suffering from tendinitis in her Achilles for the majority of the 2010 season.

Bloor has decided to postpone any major treatment on the injury until the end of the season as she aims to make her international debut in Barcelona in July.

But after an underwhelming season so far, the former Rotherham Harriers AC star insists she needs to improve sooner rather than later or risk labelling her season a write-off.

"It's sod's law really as an athlete - you get through the winter fine then get a few niggles as soon as the outdoor season starts," said Bloor, who is trained by Toni Minichiello in Sheffield.

"But it's the same for every athlete - you just have to handle it. It's nothing too bad for me - everything is manageable.

"Physios have told me there's nothing I can really do about the tendinitis until the end of the season so I've just got to manage it.

"I was hoping to come back this summer and run a bit better than I have but hopefully I can push on now as the season progresses.

"I've been invited back for the European trials again this year - I did the 100m last year and came fifth so if I can improve on that, that would be a good performance for me."
