A tenth minute strike by Ryan Gilligan put Moore's men on the back foot and the Cobblers' drilled home their advantage through Courtney Herbert 35 seconds into the second half and a freak own goal by Ian Sharps, deflecting a Luke Gutteridge shot past goalkeeper Andy Warrington.

Moore said: "Defensively we were all over the place. The passing and movement was there but the difference was in both penalty boxes. They were more clinical when they had the opportunities."

The Millers visit Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
