Locals miss out on Rotherham Golf Club prizes

HOME town competitors failed to figure when Rotherham Golf Club hosted its biggest event of the year.

The country's top amateur players converged on the Thrybergh course for the annual Keepmoat-Lee Westwood Trophy.

Ben Loughrey, of Wrag Barn Golf Club at Swindon, won the first prize by one shot from Andrew Sullivan, of Nuneaton.

Loughrey shot rounds of 67, 68, 70 and 70 for a total of 275.

Highest placed Rotherham player was Sam Young, who carded 74, 69, 72 and 71 for a total of 286, finishing 26th.

Other Rotherham placings—Tom Thornhill (29th) 68, 73, 76, 70 (287); Dominic Moon (39th) 66, 77, 76, 72 (291); Jamie Harrison (48th) 70, 71, 74, 78 (293).
