Light at the end of the tunnel for injured Millers midfielder

EXPERIENCED midfield man Darren Potter could return to play a part for Rotherham United in the Championship this season.

The 33-year-old was one of the team's key performers before being struck down by an Achilles injury last December and had been expected to be back for the new campaign.

A knock in training last spring set him back, meaning another operation, and there were fears the former MK Dons man might have kicked his last ball for the club.

But the Millers' seemingly forgotten man could be back in training by Christmas and join in during the second part of the campaign.

Assistant manager Richie Barker told the Advertiser: "We're not going to rush him but there is a half-expectation that he could join in training around about Christmas. That's not nailed on, it's not guaranteed, but hopefully it will be before March.

“It is not out of the question that he could kick a ball for Rotherham United this season and the way things are with the transfer window these days, once the window is closed come the end of January and if Darren is fit then it will be like having a new signing again.

Ready to go...the Millers face up to former Premier League outift Stoke tomorrow.

“He is working hard and he looks good. He's walking around the place, he's not on crutches any more and he's making steady progress."

Rotherham have a couple of other injury issues ahead of tomorrow's live TV game at home to Stoke although Joe Newell (hip) is back available.

Despite heavy investment, Gary Rowett's side have had a slow start and arrive level on points with Rotherham, who have won three out of their first four at home.

Added Barker: "Our home record is up there with the best in the division. Stoke were pre-season favourites for the title and to get promoted but they're on a difficult run and I hope we can make it difficult for them."
