LATEST: Millers' striker search hots up

ROTHERHAM United manager Neil Redfearn could be about to make a move for young Hibernian striker Jason Cummings, but has poured cold water on speculation linking the club with forward Leon Best.

Cummings (20) has netted 25 goals in 60 appearances for Hibs while also representing Scotland U21s on two occasions.

Redfearn told the Advertiser today: “Jason Cummings is someone that is doing really, really well and I wouldn’t deny that we have got interest in someone like that.

“But we’ve got interest in a lot of players, we’re looking at a lot of areas where we might want to strengthen, but I wouldn’t say they are going to be here the next day.

“What is important is that it is the right types.”

But former Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County front-man Best is not on the club’s radar, despite an initial conversation taking place.

Redfearn said: “Leon Best got mentioned to us but I think he had something else going off, obviously he is a player that has been about.”

An important trait Redfearn looks for when scouting potential targets is their ability compared to the rest of the squad and he isn’t in the market to take just anyone into the Millers’ camp.

He said: “I’m probably reiterating but one thing I don’t want to do is bring in players that are just as good because that would be wrong on these boys here.

“If they (current players) give me absolutely everything, which they are doing, then what I don’t want to do is bring in players that are just as good.

“I want to bring players in that are potentially better or that are going to make this group better then the club gets the benefit of it.”

What do you think Millers fans, is Jason Cummings the sort of striker the team need?
