Jordan wins schools title

TEENAGER Jonathan Thomson lifted the 32rd Rotherham Schools Strokeplay Golf Championship at Thrybergh—winning by just one shot.

In very good weather on an excellent course, 30 boys from nine Rotherham schools fought it out. Aged from nine to 18, the lowest handicap was scratch and the highest 28, with an impressive 14 single figure handicaps.

Wickersley School’s Thomson hit a gross 60, nett 61, to take the title, one stroke clear of Jordan Chappell (Winterhill), who produced an excellent score of gross 80, nett 62 to finish runner-up.

The best gross on the day was Wales High School’s Dan Wastney, with 67.

Dan will be joined by Jordan Perry, Tom Nellar, Tom Thornhill, Ben Cresswell,Jonathan Thomson, Lewis Thompson and Matt Langley to compete for the Rotherham

Schools Scratch Matchplay Championship at Sitwell Park on Monday, July 26.

The trophy and prizes were presented by Ron Adams, the new captain of Rotherham Golf Club.
