Jon Taylor injury worry and Rotherham United meet over new recruitment chief

Taylor came off in the second half and the Millers will be hoping he recovers in time for this weekend's derby at high-flying Sheffield United.

The 26-year-old terrorised the Blades in a man-of-the-match display when the South Yorkshire rivals fought out a 2-2 draw at AESSEAL New York Stadium earlier in the season.

"It's his ankle," said manager Paul Warne who was today scheduled to meet the board over a new head of recruitment following the departure of Jamie Johnson. "He looked in pain when he walked off."

Blades management duo Chris Wilder and Alan Knill were at New York as Rotherham kept on the tail of Reading in the battle for second-tier safety with a 3-2 triumph over Blackburn.

Warne's men were heading out of the bottom three until the Royals grabbed a last-minute winner at Ipswich Town to remain above the Millers on goal difference

Millwall lost and Wigan Athletic drew to both slip back into the relegation frame.

"When Ipswich equalised and it came up on the screen it felt like we were having a right day," said Warne.

"Obviously it spoils the day a little bit that Reading scored a late winner. I'd rather every team in the bottom part of the table other than us lost.

"There's nothing I can do about. It probably makes our three points even more valuable. If Reading had won and we had conceded another late goal and drawn, then it would have felt like a bad day at the office.

"All we can do is try to win our games and try to keep the pressure on them."

Will Vaulks, who has Welsh heritage from his mother, enhanced his claims for an international call-up by having a hand in all three goals against Rovers in front of watching Wales boss Ryan Giggs.

Meanwhile, Warne is hoping for an appointment within 10 days as the club seek a new recruitment chief.

Former player Rob Scott could be under consideration after earning plaudits for his work in that field with Brentford and Watford.

Scott, who lives in Rotherham and is a regular at New York, is an old teammate of Warne's but has built a reputation for being his own man and has extensive knowledge of the foreign markets the Millers are keen to tap into.

He still works for Watford and is also part of an FA programme identifying young talent. However, he might be tempted by the chance to head up his own department.
