"It wasn't a good day for him." Paul Warne on the referee after Rotherham United's defeat against Norwich City

ROTHERHAM United manager Paul Warne sent in assistant boss Richie Barker to question the referee after the Millers' 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Championship leaders Norwich City.

Official Oliver Langford's performance was woeful for the second time this campaign at AESSEAL New York Stadium and Warne picked his words carefully when he was asked to comment on the display of the man in the middle.

He said: "People have good days and bad days at the office and I don't think it was a good day for him.

"I won't be going in to see him. It will be 'the terrier', Richie."

Langford was as equally poor in the 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic in February.

Semi Ajayi fired Rotherham level in the 53rd minutes with his sixth goal in five games after Kenny McLean's opener on the stroke of half-time but the Canaries won the contest four minutes later through Ben Godfrey.

Defeat left the Millers third from bottom in the table, a point behind Reading and Millwall.

"I thought the lads were excellent," Warne added. "I asked them for a performance.

"If Norwich have their best day and we have our best day, we are always going to struggle. They are a formidable outfit. I thought our lads were great.

"A lot of their players told me we deserved more out of the game. With eight games to go, if we continue like that then hopefully we will pick up enough points to have an amazing season.

"We needed to hold on to 1-1 for llonger. They won a corner and scored, but we should mark better than that.

"The lads were virtually blemish-free today. If you come and watch us play we are good entertainment. It's a pity we didn't get a point."
