Here's when Rotherham United defender Sean Raggett could be playing again

Rotherham United boss Paul Warne has welcomed the potential return of Sean Raggett as the defender's comeback from surgery picks up pace.

Raggett hasn't played since suffering a serious ankle injury in early September at Wigan Athletic just as he was establishing himself in the Millers first team.

But the centre-half, signed on a season-long loan from Norwich City, will take a significant step forward after the weekend by training on the grass for the first time since his operation.

"Sean is back on the grass running on Monday," confirmed Warne who is hoping to have the 24-year-old available for selection soon after the next international break later this month.

"That's great news. He'll be desperate to get back in the team."

The battle for places in central defence is intensifying. Rotherham have captain Richard Wood waiting in the wings after Semi Ajayi and Clark Robertson combined to help the Millers earn draws in their last away games while Raggett is determined to reclaim his starting role.

Robertson, a summer signing from Blackpool who has had to wait for his chance, is poised for an AESSEAL New York Stadium debut in tomorrow's Championship clash with Swansea City.

"Robbo's done well," Warne said. "In his two games we've conceded only one goal and that one wasn't his fault. He can be happy with himself. He's part of a good back four.

"The defenders in the team need to keep up the standards they've set in the last few weeks. Collectively, they've done well and Robbo has played a big part in that."

Wood had been in good form but lost his place after a 1-1 draw at home to Bolton Wanderers a fortnight ago.

"I've got Woody - as is the case with all good defenders out of the side - chewing at the bit to get back in," Warne said.

"Woody is coping okay. Actually, that's not true, but that's why I want him here. His tenacity, competitiveness and desire to play every week is what makes him who he is. I don't expect him ever to be pleased about not playing.

"He's ready for when I put him back in. I think, if I am honest, we do miss him and Raggett on set-pieces. That's something we have to consider every time that we pick the team. It might be that this week he could play a part."
