Harriers' promotion target

ROTHERHAM Harriers are on track for the Northern Athletics League promotion play-offs after hitting top spot in their division with one meeting to go.

In the third of four matches, Rotherham's pre-match hopes that their home fixture at Herringthorpe would help strengthen the team were justified—even though rivals City of Sheffield were also able to rely on some of their British League athletes, who had been helping the club win their first division match the previous day.

There were several key factors which enabled Rotherham to win a closely contested match.

There was a high turn-out of quality athletes in the women's endurance events, meaning that Rotherham scored maximum points in the 800m (Helen Walker and Jess Fawcett), 1500m (Abbie Vernon and Robyn Lanceley) and 3000m (Jenny Blizard and Natalie Grant).

Sisters Jenny and Heather Cuthbertson finished second in both the A and B pole vault events.
