Gutsy Main climb table but Gate slip up

A LATE goal saw gutsy Maltby Main overcome Knaresborough Town to record a second consecutive victory in the NCEL Premier Division.

Rory Coleman’s 84th minute winner was the only goal of the match and saw Main climb to ninth.

Chances were few and far between in a hard-fought match until Coleman slammed the ball over the line after Town keeper Smith could only parry a Robbie Foster shot in front of goal. It was Foster’s second goal in two games.

Main visit 14th placed Handsworth on Saturday (3pm).

Parkgate, meanwhile, were left disappointed after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of lowly Rossington Main.

Gate were hoping to climb the Northern Counties East Division One table after finally getting some match action after six weeks without a game, but came unstuck against a resilient Main side who went ahead in the 48th minute through Niall Doran and increased their lead in the 72nd minute when Darryl Winter netted.

Parkgate, who slipped to 12th in the table, face Dronfield Town, who are just a place behind them, at Roundwood at 3pm on Saturday.
