Gloom as Titans blow a ten-point lead

The midlanders, with three defeats for starters in National One, were 28-22 winners after a storybook return for former skipper Adam Caves, brought back from minor level rugby to plug one of the gaps amid a raft of injury problems for the hosts.

Veteran Caves, who had made over 350 appearances for the club before being released last summer, scored all four for the Moseley tries in an astonishing personal display — all from rolling mauls.

But Titans were their own worst enemies as they gave away penalties which allowed Moseley to drive forward and eradicate an early 10-0 lead for the Clifton Lane men, Dan Leake touching down and Aled Dolly adding the conversion and a penalty in a strong start.

But it started to go pear-shaped when Caves was trundled over for his first and even though Dolly added a second penalty, Caves was again driven over to make it 13-13.

Even though the Rotherham full-back seemed to have stemmed the tide with another goal Caves snaffled his hat-trick try on the stroke of half-time to put his side 18-16 in front.

The hooker's killer fourth came just a minute after the restart and at 28-16 down and with little in the way of incisive rugby, Rotherham struggled to match their hosts' forward power which didn't, as had been expected, drain towards the end.

Instead, although Dolly added a further two penalties, James Williams added the final three-pointer to complete a miserable afternoon for the Lane men.

Said head coach Joe Barker: "I was really disappointed, I thought that we controlled the game.

"The only way they got into our half was through our poor discipline."

Titans now look to bounce back this Saturday when they host Sale FC at Clifton Lane.
