Games underline our stature: Evans

MILLERS boss Steve Evans says next week's big friendlies against Leicester City and German side FSV Mainz underlines the current stature of the club.

Rotherham play Leicester on Wednesday (7.45pm) and the Bundesliga side the following Saturday.

"We couldn't have picked two better friendlies," says Evans.

“The new manager at Leicester City, Claudio Ranieri, will see us as one of their final tests before they start in the Premier League and then we have FSV Mainz at the New York in a tremendous game.

“They’re the sort of club that buys players for millions and that puts into perspective how tough our challenge is going to be.

“We purposly picked Leicester and Mainz.

“We could have taken a couple of Spanish and French clubs who were keen to come to the New York but I told the board that I wanted strong opposition and when the opportunity came up to take these guys we jumped at it.

“Other than the big four in England, we probably couldn’t get any stronger team than the Germans.

“A game of this size shows what people think of us off the pitch.

“We’re a brand at the end of the day and we’re a name and it’s a big endorsement for us.”
