Extra recovery time for Towell after Ireland no-go

ROTHERHAM United midfielder Richie Towell will not be on Republic of Ireland duty this weekend after all.

The on-loan Brighton man is among six players to drop out of the squad after boss Martin O'Neill trimmed numbers before their Nations League double-header with Denmark and Wales.

Greg Cunningham, Ronan Curtis, Graham Burke, Daryl Horgan and Alan Judge have also been left out. All had been among the initial 32 names.

The decision will give Towell extra recovery time, having had fluid drained from his knee only last week. He has sat out the last two matches against Bristol City and Birmingham.
