Evans tipped for Owls job

STEVE Evans is this morning considering his options after being made favourite to take over from Dave Jones at Sheffield Wednesday.

Rotherham United are understood to have been approached by the Owls with a view to entering into discussions with Evans, this morning rated at 1/2 by the bookies.

Hillsborough chairman Milan Mandaric says he wants "a winner" to replace Jones, axed on Sunday after Wednesday slipped six points from safety in the Championship following a 2-0 defeat at Blackpool.

Evans' departure - and it's by no means certain that he will accept any offer - will be a hammer blow to Tony Stewart and the Millers, currently sixth in League One after the weekend's 4-1 romp against Gillingham.

Stewart not only faces the prospect of losing his manager but also his key players.

No-one at the New York Stadium was available for comment.
