Evans calls for full support

ROTHERHAM United manager Steve Evans says the supporters have an important part to play as the League Two promotion race reaches crunch time.

The issue looks likely to go to the wire, with the Millers looking for a big points haul from their remaining six games to haul themselves into the top three and avoid the lottery of the play-offs.

Evans, singled out for stick when things have not gone right this season, has warned there might be difficulties along the way and insists it is vital that the fans maintain a united front even when things aren't going well.

After a mixed Easter that brought a win and a defeat, good numbers will be following the team to Morecambe tomorrow before Tuesday's rearranged home date against top-end rivals Exeter City.

And, says Evans, the more positive the vibe from the stands, the better it will be for the team.

He told the Advertiser: "The supporters are going to be absolutely vital for us and we can't have people turning on the players.

"The supporters of Cheltenham and Exeter don't get on the backs of their team. When things aren't going well, they go quiet.

"Even though they've had to watch some poor performances at home, our supporters have been sublime. They showed patience when we played Wimbledon last week and we're going to need them 100 per cent with us again."

The Millers will run a check on Lee Frecklington, who watched Monday's defeat at Gillingham from the substitutes' bench due to a virus. Defender Mark Bradley (ankle) returns to the squad having come through 90 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday.
