Electric Jag serves up planet-saving power

JAGUAR has unveiled its first supercar since the record-breaking XJ220...and it’s electric.

The four-wheel-drive, electric-powered C-X75 has been developed by engineers at the British luxury brand to showcase its eco-friendly thinking for the future and demonstrate its talent for producing some of the world’s most desirable vehicles.

Performance estimates for the C-X75 suggest that it will accelerate to 62mph in 3.4 seconds on its way to a 205mph top speed thanks to thrust provided by four individual 195bhp motors at each wheel.

Absolute power outputs are quoted at 780bhp and an astonishing 1,180lb.ft. of torque.

The real innovation comes under the car’s stunning exterior in the form of a pair of micro gas-turbines which help overcome the electric vehicle’s usual achilles heel—a limited range—by spinning at 80,000 rpm to generate enough electricity to extend the range to a remarkable 560 miles.

Early images suggest that Jaguar have created a stunning solution to the headaches posed by zero-emissions motoring.

Jaguar’s design director, Ian Callum, said: “The C-X75 hints at an exciting evolution of Jaguar’s design language.

“While paying homage to some of its most admired cars of years gone by, advanced design features such as a ground-breaking propulsion system and active aerodynamics allow for an elegantly simple fuselage section that remains stable at very high speeds.”
