Determined Joe

JOE Mattock wants to get his career back on an upward track at Rotherham United after a frustrating few years.

It's a while since his career peaked in 2009 when West Bromwich Albion forked out £1.2 million to take him from his boyhood club Leicester City and he helped them win promotion to the Premier League.

Capped by his country as a youth, Mattock also turned out for England U21s but the graduation to the top flight didn't work out.

He's had injury problems and his 50-plus league starts at Sheffield Wednesday were accumulated over three seasons.

Like a few more who have arrived at the NYS in the last few years, Mattock has a point to prove and he reckons he's found the right place to breath new life into his game.

"I had a good start to my career and it dipped a bit," he says. "In the last few years I have been playing more games but not loads of games. I had a few injuries and hopefully I can stay injury-free, get some matches and return to an upward spiral."
