Come on down .. 125th anniversary invite to Mexborough Montagu Cup finalists of the past

THE Mexborough Montagu Cup is thought to be the oldest football competition still to be played at the same venue.

To mark the tournament's 125th anniversary, organisers are inviting past Montagu Cup finalists to attend next year's final as special guests.

The decider is on Easter Monday, April 18, 2022 (11am) at Mexborough Athletic ground on Hampden Road, venue for the first final in 1897.

Spokesman Chris Brook said: “We want to bring together as many players from past finals as possible.

“A publication is expected to mark the occasion and it is hoped to have a group photograph ahead of kick-off.

“For players who have passed away, we would like to invite one relative to represent them.”
