Club pleads for more help

OFFICIALS from one of Rotherham’s top cricket clubs have issued a plea to stave off potential extinction.

Troubled Phoenix CC were hit by the en-bloc resignation of their senior cricket committee on Wednesday following in-house political problems, leaving no-one at the helm of the South Yorkshire Senior League outfit who last season played in the Premier Division.

Phoenix recently opted to drop down in order to rebuild the game from the grass roots but since then the club’s organisational infrastructure has imploded.

Now they need to recruit new blood before an EGM on December 1—or the club will be forced to fold.

Said Chairman Dave Arnold, one of the outgoing committee members: “The resignations are due to issues that have cropped up in the club and the committee felt that, as a result, their positions were untenable.

“But the last thing we all want is for the club to fold. We need people to come in and help run key positions on the the administrative side of the club."

“Everything is in place and it just needs someone else to come in and run it.”
