Businessmen step in to save Boys

ROTHERHAM Boys have been saved from extinction.

After a groundswell of support following last week’s Advertiser story, when the plug was pulled on the town schools’ representative set-up because of cash shortages, the Boys are to continue thanks to the backing of local businessmen.

And the teams can now look forward to a brighter future, with Rotherham United also expected to lend their backing.

The Boys, who have had a catalogue of successes at U14 and U15 level over the years, looked to have played their last game when funds dried up at the end of last season.

But businessmen Spencer Fearn and Jim Lobley—who have both played representative football for Rotherham—came to the rescue and helped set-up an off-field team to try and rekindle the teams’ fortunes.

Said Spencer: “It would be a crying shame if it all went to the wall.

“The town needs a good representative side and we couldn’t let it die. We made some calls and it was clear there was a general determination to sort the problem out and lend support.
