Bristol City defender Zak Vyner signs in at the NYS

DEFENDER Zak Vyner has joined Rotherham United on a season-long loan, becoming the club's third signing of the summer.

The 21-year-old Bristol City man is highly rated at Ashton Gate and only signed a new contract with the Robins on Friday.

A versatile player who can play right-back or at centre-half, he adds to manager Paul Warne's defensive options having brought in another centre-back, Clark Robertson, from Blackpool late last week.

Bristol City chief Lee Johnson is said to be a big fan of Vyner and expects him to return to the club and fight for a first team place.

Planning ahead: Manager Paul Warne and assistant Richie Barker.

A product of Bristol's Academy, Vyner made half a dozen appearances for Bristol last season before spending the second half of the campaign at Plymouth Argyle, helping their push towards the League One play-offs. He played in their 2-1 win over the Millers at Home Park in April and picked up the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

The season before he had a loan spell at Accrington Stanley, making 17 appearances.

He arrives in time for Saturday's opening pre-season friendly against Parkgate and next week's training camp in Austria.

Grimsby Town have also been added to the friendlies roster. The Mariners will take on the Millers at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Friday, July 20 (7.45pm).
