ROTHERHAM United boss Ronnie Moore has failed in an 11th hour bid to bring son Ian in from Tranmere Rovers.

The Millers' boss spent yesterday trying to sign a new striker to complement 14-goal Adam Le Fondre up front, but had to admit defeat before the loans deadline.

Tranmere were unable to bring in the man they wanted on loan, which scuppered the Moore deal with the Merseysiders needing his services for back-up.

Said Ronnie: "We did a deal to send one of our lads out which would have enabled Ian to come in and I think he'd have done a great job for us - the fans would love him and I think he'll work well with Alfie.

"But it fell through at the Tranmere end. It's disappointing, but I'm sure we can get the best out of the lads we have."
