Bowls club rolls out invitation to newcomers

A BOWLS club is looking to boost numbers in time for the new season.

Valley Park Combined Bowls Club, based at Herringthorpe Valley Park, needs an influx of new blood to help keep its teams, and the sport, buoyant.

Secretary Terry Kennedy explained: “We currently have 16 league teams and our current membership is around 80 in both number and age! We are therefore looking for established players to join us to ensure we can fulfil our league commitments for the coming season which starts in April.

“Equally importantly, we are looking for younger members to ensure the future of bowling in Rotherham. Coaching can be provided for beginners and the cost is minimal.”

The club was formed from the several bowls clubs in 2013 when Rotherham Borough Council advised they were to cease maintenance of their bowling greens.

To ensure the greens are retained for current and future bowlers, the Combined Bowls Club has leased the greens from the local authority.

The club competes in the Rotherham Combined and Retired Persons leagues and hosts a lot of social bowling.

Added Terry: “A warm welcome is guaranteed for anyone wanting to come along and join us.”

Anyone who is interested in joining or talking about the club can contact Terry Kennedy at [email protected] or on 07910 503613 before the AGM on February 20.
