The match between Joker and Wombwell Main at Hampden Road, Mexborough, saw three players sent off — all from Wombwell — after a challenge in which Joker's Gary Podmore suffered a broken leg.

The player who made the tackle was dismissed along with two team-mates in the ensuing melee.

Joker were leading 2-0 at the time and 35 minutes had been played. It is understood that Joker wanted to play on while Wombwell, down to eight men, were willing to concede the tie.

The Mexborough Montagu Cup committee must now decide whether to order a replay or hand the trophy to Joker. A decision is expected in due course.
