AESSEAL New York Stadium stages five-star display from France in 2022 Women's Euros

INTERNATIONAL football returned to AESSEAL New York Stadium in style as France put Italy to the sword at the 2022 Women's Euros.

A crowd of more than 8,541 saw Grace Geyoro score a first-half hat-trick as Corinnne Diacre's fancied side raced into a 5-0 lead by the interval.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Delphine Cascarino also netted before before Italy upped their game in the second half and claimed a deserved consolation goal from substitute Martina Piemonte in the Group D fixture, which finished 5-1.

The New York Stadium provided a fine backdrop for the occasion, with the pitch in prestine condition and the stands decked out in UEFA livery.

Both teams brought good support and there were plenty neutrals and Rotherham United shirts among the crowd too.

The match is the first of four at the venue.

Group D matches continue in Rotherham on Thursday (8pm) when France take on Belgium, who played out a 1-1 draw with Iceland in the other fixture in the section in Manchester earlier today.
