AESSEAL New York Stadium set for England U19s Euro qualifier

INTERNATIONAL football returns to Rotherham this weekend.

The AESSEAL New York Stadium plays host to England men’s U19s against Armenia U19s on Saturday (2pm) as Ian Foster's Young Lions bid to qualify for this summer's 2022 UEFA U19s Euros in Slovakia.

England got their campaign off to a perfect start when beating Republic of Ireland 3-1 at Walsall last night and face Portugal next Tuesday after their date in Rotherham.

Only the group winners qualify for the U19 Euros finals, a tournament England has won once in its current guise, in 2017.

Foster said: “It's great that we have home advantage for this final phase of our qualifying campaign and even better that it allows us to take our Young Lions around the country.

“We're looking forward to visiting Rotherham where the backing will be vital in helping to get us over the line to qualify.

“It's rare that football fans get to witness the next crop of young England stars in their region so we hope to see plenty of all ages come out to enjoy the unique experience of watching international football.”

Millers chairman Tony Stewart said: “We are immensely proud to once again be given the chance to stage an international fixture here in Rotherham.

“When we moved into the AESSEAL New York Stadium nearly ten years ago, we did so with a vision of hosting fixtures like the one coming up, but to have staged the number of games that we have done across various age groups and in the Women's game in that time has been fantastic.

“Alongside the work that our own team are doing, fixtures of this ilk are really helping to put Rotherham on the map and it is brilliant to see people coming from across the country to see what we have to offer here.

“I am sure this game will be well-attended and will lead us nicely into a summer of football with the Women's Euros.”
